Chapter 1: It Starts...

I don't know where it started or when. I just know that it did. This virus... disease, whatever the hell it is, destroyed the world I once knew to be normal. I thought it was a joke at first. People can't really come back from the dead, that's just stuff you see in movies right? How completely wrong I was. I was too naive to believe it, until it was too late.

My day started like any normal day. I woke up, hopped in the shower, grabbed some breakfast, and left for work. Nothing seemed different. My drive in was pleasant and the traffic was actually not bad. It usually never is too terribly bad in a nothing town such as mine. I made my way to my regular parking place and departed from my vehicle. As I walked through the outskirts of down town toward my office, I saw what looked like a homeless guy walking, or limping... no, staggering. From across the street I could see that he had blood on his pants, my impressive power of deduction concluded that this was the cause of the limp. Normally, I would just keep walking, but my conscience got the better of me. I knew that something was wrong here and this man needed help. After arguing with myself about being a Good Samaritan, I walked over to attempt to help the guy.

"Hey buddy, are you alright?" I slowly began walking across the street and approached the wounded stranger. "Hello? Did you hear me?" As I got closer to the man, he turned his head towards me and his eyes gazed upon mine. His eyes had the look of a day old doughnut, his mouth was gaping wide, sagging to left and a bloody drool ran down his face. "Sir, we need to get you to a hospital!" He turned his body completely towards me now. I could now see what was causing the man's limp. His foot was bent with the sole facing outward at almost a ninety degree angle. I backed away, stunned at what I was seeing and that's when I noticed it. His arm. It was undeniable now, about three-fourths down this straggler's arm was the mark.

"Holy shit... it's a zombie."
